Soft on the inside, lightly crisp on the outside, healthy and unbelievably easy to make — these homemade kefir bread rolls are a nourishing alternative to shop-bought bread. Made with just two main ingredients, they’re naturally fermented, gut-friendly, and perfect served warm with butter, soups, or as a simple lunch roll. No yeast, no proving, no fuss.

Ingredients
3 cups self-raising flour
2 cups kefir yougurt
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Sesame seeds
Method
Preheat your oven to 180°C and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, mix the self-raising flour and kefir until a soft dough forms.
If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time, until workable but still soft.
Lightly flour your hands and divide the dough into 7–8 equal portions.
Roll each piece into a ball and place onto the baking tray, gently flattening each one slightly.
Brush the tops with egg wash and /or sprinkle over sesame seeds.
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until risen and golden.
Cool slightly before serving — or enjoy warm straight from the oven.
To Serve
Delicious with butter, honey, or alongside soups and salads. These rolls also freeze beautifully, making them perfect for batch baking.
